WHO ARE WE?

Where are you?

What spaces are you occupying?

Well – if you are not contained in a building, stuck on a transport network or farming the land…

Chances are you are in Amenity Space.

Is this Amenity space?
Planners use this vague term to describe land that has no specific function. We come across this term all the time, as a provision for Amenity Space is often required to supplement the design of our cities and towns.

But why should you be interested? Well, as citizens on this planet, you are surrounded by these pockets of land that glue our cities together. Most of them are there for your benefit and 'amenity' – but so many are underused. These spaces have been defined by planning policy, both at a local and governmental level. Their role is to make a positive contribution to the public realm. But as the definition is so vague and with no nationally recognised standard for the provision of Amenity Space do Planning Departments even know what it means.

Our practice is run by 2 architects - Tony Broomhead and Nicky Kirk. We are committed to producing buildings, artworks and design that surpass our clients expectations. We are a fully chartered Royal Institute of British Architects practice and regulated by the Architects Regulation Board.

Amenity Space were recently longisted for the Young Architect of the Year Award 2010. They have won other numerous awards including the 2008 Urban Revision Award. They have been shortlisted for several other projects and continue to explore the boundaries of architectural practice and research.
